Dramatic footage captures moment a massive waterspout rips through Amsterdam as twisters injure 19 across northern Europe

  • A waterspout was captured whipping its way towards the city of Amsterdam
  • The strange vortex vanishes as quickly as it appears as storms batter Europe
  • A tornado in Luxembourg is now confirmed to have injured a total of 19 people

Tornadoes are terrifying forces of nature that seem unstoppable in their path of destruction, but even more shocking is to find one at sea.

Video taken from the inside of a ship's cockpit moored near Amsterdam shows that the strange European winds are bringing chaos at sea as well as land.

The airborne deluge whips across the deck of the ship with an eerie quiet as debris floats almost motionlessly in the air.

The waterspout continues its path towards Amsterdam's shores, almost as if acting on instinct, ignoring the cabin's occupants as it head's towards land.

The strange vortex isn't a one off, Luxembourg was thrown into disarray by a tornado which tore the roofs off houses earlier this month.

The terrifying natural phenomenon has injured 19, with one of those in serious condition after suffering a heart attack.

The destruction has made 100 homes uninhabitable across the towns of Pétange and Bascharage, where torn power cables now litter the streets.

In a bid to prevent any further injury and lower the potential for fires, the fire service has cut power to the towns and in the surrounding area.

More than 200 volunteers have joined with police and fire services across the region to clear away debris and search for anymore injured.

As the tornado entered France late Friday it damaged homes in the Meurthe-et-Moselle region, but there were no reports of injuries, according to local authorities
