Wind settles down tonight, 60s return this week
A few showers/t-storms possible this afternoon
We are off to a windy start this week. The wind picked up behind a cold front that moved through the region last night, and gusts of 30 to 40+ mph will continue through tonight before gradually decreasing by Tuesday morning. A few isolated showers and thundershowers are possible this afternoon into this evening with a better chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms late Thursday and Thursday night. Other than that, the upcoming week will be mostly dry with mild temperatures, and that trend looks to continue into a pleasant Easter weekend.
The wind will gradually die down late tonight into Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 50s. 10 to 20 mph wind gusts are likely in the morning, but the wind will decrease to about 5 to 10 mph by mid to late afternoon.
Temperatures will climb back above average by midweek with highs reaching the upper 60s to near 70 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. We are monitoring a system that has the potential to bring showers and thunderstorms to much of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa late Thursday, Thursday night into Friday morning. While the overall severe threat is low for most of southern Minnesota, we’ll be keeping an eye on the potential for a few strong to severe storms along and south of US Highway 18 in Iowa. The main severe threats will be large hail and damaging wind gusts. While the more significant severe weather threat and better chance of isolated tornadoes will be further south across central Iowa, there is still some uncertainty in regard to how far north this system will track. Stay tuned… we will be watching this closely and we’ll have updates along the way.
As of now, it looks like we are going to have a relatively pleasant Easter weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy with highs in the 60s. Long-range models are hinting at a chance of a few showers late Sunday into Monday, but that’s still a week away. We will definitely keep an eye on the upcoming holiday weekend and will have updates as we get closer.
