At approximately 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, severe storms generated tornados, which have caused damage within Limestone and Madison counties as well as multiple road closures. Fallen trees are currently blocking multiple roads within both Limestone and Madison counties and will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are currently working to gather additional information and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly. Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution when traveling in these areas.

Athens

— According to the City of Athens social media pages, only 19 customers across four outages are still without power. 

— Athens Utility is also assisting Huntsville utility crews who have 4,776 customers without power, as of 10:45 a.m.

Update as of 9:50 a.m. May 9

Athens

— No widespread damages reported so far. 

— According to Athens Utilities, as of earlier this morning, 201 customers were without power. The power-loss was scattered over eight outages. Down from 2,000 outages from the severe storm last night.

Dekalb County

— Sand Mountain Area- Trees reported in the roadways.

— Henagar Area- Trees reported in the roadways.

— Ider Area -Trees reported in the roadways.

Jackson County

— Debris reported in the roadways.

 Limestone County

— Continue to proceed with caution on the roadways.

Madison County

— Continue to proceed with caution on the roadways.

— Trees in the roadway and Power Outages Reported in the Five Points Area.
