The National Weather Service (NWS) on Wednesday issued a second round of warnings for Huntsville and Madison in Alabama. The agency said that residents should not 'take their guards down' after one twister hit the area earlier in the day. Power flashes were seen across the city.
"9:58pm Huntsville Metro folks, we know you just took shelter for the previous tornado that is heading into southern Jackson County, but you are in ANOTHER TORNADO WARNING. Please heed this warning and take shelter again," NWS Huntsville said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.
"This tornadic storm leaving Limestone County and heading into Madison Co is RIDING ALONG HWY 72. Please seek shelter and get off the road. Heads up Huntsville Metro you are downstream of this storm and need to seek shelter now," it further added.
This warning comes after Huntsville experienced a tornado storm earlier in the day. The NWS had said that people can expect 'Golf-ball-sized hail (1.75 inches) is expected with the incoming storm'.
Earlier in the day, severe storms tore through parts of the U.S. again Wednesday, spawning damaging tornadoes, producing massive hail, and killing two people in Tennessee and one person in North Carolina.
A storm that rumbled across northeastern Tennessee brought high winds that knocked down powerlines and trees. Claiborne County Sheriff Bob Brooks said a 22-year-old man was in a car struck by one of the trees.
Wednesday afternoon, a tornado emergency — the weather service's highest alert level — was issued for an area south of Nashville including the towns of Spring Hill, Chapel Hill and Eagleville.
