Heat, humidity, and possibly a line of severe thunderstorms are in the forecast Thursday for Southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry. Thursday is a WJCL Impact Day with the threat of severe storms.
The timing of strong to severe thunderstorms will favor 1-7pm with the earlier timeframe for locations around Metter and Hampton. For the Savannah area, the most likely timing is 2-6pm.
Before the storms arrive high temperatures will reach the low to mid 90s. The storms will have plenty of fuel to feed off and will likely arrive during the peak of daytime heating.
Storm impacts may include a high threat of strong winds and downpours. Quarter size hail may be produced from some storms. There is also a lower risk of isolated tornadoes, something we are monitoring closely.
A second round of thunderstorms is possible Friday, mainly morning through midday. Those storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Models have been inconsistent in rain/thunderstorm placement for Friday, so the overall confidence in Friday's forecast is a bit lower.
The good news is the weekend forecast looks dry and less humid for any Mother's Day plans you may have.
