BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - It’s 90° for a majority of our area today and tomorrow afternoons. Highs will settle in the low 90°s this afternoon with mid 90°s for Thursday afternoon. Baton Rouge is forecast to come within one degree of tying an over 100-year-old record Thursday.

We stay dry both days under partly cloudy skies. Besides the heat, the biggest weather issue will be breezy winds with gusts in the teens and 20 mph range.

A cold front will help bring relief for the end of the week and start of next week. The front will be a roadway for a mid-level disturbance to travel across late Thursday into Early Friday. This will prompt some scattered showers and t-storms. Right now, short-range, high-resolution weather models suggest we could see one or two strong possibly severe storms north of Baton Rouge near the state line. Damaging wind is the primary concern. It is unlikely severe weather will be widespread. Most will actually get through the overnight completely dry or with minimal rain. Rain amounts are forecast to be less than 0.25″ for most.

It will be a much welcomed cool down to end the week. Temperatures and conditions will be quite comfortable over the weekend. If you are planning weekend plans you may want to shoot for Saturday. That’s because we have another approaching disturbance which will produce scattered PM t-showers Sunday. Rain trends likely to start the work/school week with a 60% chance Monday and 50% chance Tuesday. The increased cloud cover and passing showers will help keep daytime highs slightly below normal. As conditions dry some later in the week, temperatures will start to see another climb.
