Residents of 3 more Alabama counties now eligible for FEMA aid for Jan 12. storms, tornadoes

FEMA has expanded the list of counties eligible for federal assistance to help residents impacted by the Jan. 12 storms and tornadoes that killed seven people and injured several others.

People in Greene, Sumter and Tallapoosa counties can now apply for the assistance, joining residents of Autauga, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, and Hale counties, the agency announced.

Originally, Autauga and Dallas counties were approved for individual assistance from FEMA. Last week, FEMA added Coosa, Elmore and Hale counties to the designated disaster area.

Now, people in eight counties are eligible for the federal aid for assistance including temporary housing help, basic home repairs “and certain other uninsured disaster-related needs,” the agency said.

Survivors can apply for disaster assistance at disasterassistance.gov, by using the FEMA mobile app, or by calling 800-621-3362. The helpline is open, and help is available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CST in most languages.

Those that use a relay service such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others were told to give FEMA the number for that service.
