Jorge Garcia was driving through Platteville when he spotted the tornado and pulled over to take video.

WELD COUNTY, Colo. — Jorge Garcia, who lives in La Salle, Colo., said he was “right next” to the tornado that hit Weld County on Monday.

Garcia told 9NEWS he driving to work with his girlfriend around 5:15 p.m. when he spotted the tornado in Platteville, just off Highway 66. When they reached Highway 85, they pulled over to take photos.

Video from Garcia shows a massive tunnel reaching up to the sky. The stirring wind kicks up dirt, creating a brown cloud close to the ground. Some debris can be seen zooming by the camera, as well.

"I was really [more] astonished than anything to see it so close,” Garcia said. “Considering my girlfriend and I were just looking at tornado videos on YouTube two days prior … she was terrified that it was going to drag us up with it."
