Book on Outing tornado publishes

Author Sue Dugan Moline's book on the 1969 tornado in Outing titled “The Lake Turned Upside Down” was published Dec. 11.

In a news release written by Moline, she stated her book became an Amazon bestseller in two categories its first week on the market. “The Lake Turned Upside Down – The Story of Unthinkable Tragedy and Incredible Survival in the 1969 Outing, Minnesota F4 Tornado” ranked No. 42 in Christian Inspirational and No. 84 in Historical Biographies.

According to the book description on Amazon: “August 6, 1969 became the fifth deadliest day in Minnesota tornado history, killing a total of fifteen people state-wide. Eleven of fifteen deaths occurred on the east and west shores of Roosevelt Lake at 4:55 p.m. in the tiny town of Outing.

Aitkin art center calls for entries for juried show

AITKIN — The Jaques Art Center in Aitkin announces a Call For Entries for its 17th Annual Juried Art Show titled "Happy Trails."

There will be $1,500 in prize money to be awarded at the opening reception scheduled May 8, 2021. Entries will be accepted in the three categories of fine art, photography and 3D sculpture; and also in a student category. The official date for receiving completed entry forms is April 6, 2021.
