Friday fundraiser benefits premature babies

Amanda Roth is excited for the fundraiser she is hosting on Oct. 30.

SILVER CREEK — Amanda Roth wants to give back, but also notes a personal interest in a fundraiser that will take place on Friday.

A Silver Creek Central High School senior, she is a member of National Honors Society, Key Club President, and Lieutenant Governor of New York state Division 26 for Key Club. In addition, she belongs to multiple music groups, and has been a Girl Scout since she was 9 years old.

Roth also was born prematurely. “This issue affects so many people within our communities, including myself,” said Roth, who was weighed 3 pounds and 3 ounces when born at Mercy Hospital.

This is what inspired Roth when she was planning what to do to earn her Gold Award in Girl Scouts. The Girl Scout Gold Award is a community service project requiring 80 hours of community service, some of which will be accounted for with the fundraiser.

Roth has planned a huge Roaring ’20s fundraising event for Friday at Cabana Sam’s in Irving. There will be refreshments, a photo booth, compliments of Special Events Photo Booth, a 50-50 raffle, a basket raffle, and a DJ compliments of the Backline. The fundraiser will help aid premature babies born at Mercy Hospital. “Premature birth affects every one in ten babies born in the United States,” Roth said. “I am so grateful to have the opportunity to give back.”

Profits from the fundraiser will be used to purchase as many Frederick T Frog positioning aids as possible. These are given to and used with premature babies to promote their health and create a calm atmosphere for the babies in incubators going through treatments. The tool is used by Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses and doctors to put the baby in a certain position.

“The Frederick T Frog positioning aids give the babies something to hold and squeeze, and that can be a good thing for regulating everything from oxygen intake to heartbeats,” she said. “The aids also help preoccupy the babies from pulling out their breathing tubes in the NICU.

The Roaring ’20s Fundraiser event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 presale and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased by calling Roth at 785-5968 or dropping in at Mia Bella’s Consignment Boutique at 260 Central Ave. between noon and 6 p.m. on the Wednesday before the event. “I appreciate all the community support from friends, family, my Girl Scout troop, our local businesses, the Silver Creek and New York state Key Club, the National Honors Society, and the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club,” she said. “I cannot wait to see everyone there for a roaring good time!”
