If there was ever a question on whether or not our law enforcement officers care about their community, this should answer it!

Nearly two weeks ago, devastating tornadoes swept through our area, ultimately killing three, damaging countless homes and businesses, including Benton Middle School, and shutting down I-20 for hours in Webster Parish.

While my own brother and sister-in-law suffered a great amount of damage at their home in Athens, LA, just east of Minden, at least everyone is alive and healthy.

Tracey Jefferson can't say the same. Not only did he lose his great grandfather in the storm, his Haughton home was destroyed. While there's no amount of money that will bring back Tracey's great-grandfather, a donation from the 'Friends of Bossier Law Enforcement' will make things a little easier.

'Friends of Bossier Law Enforcement' is a fund created from donated monies from local residents to assist those in our community during their time of need and yesterday, they, along with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office, donated $500 to Jefferson to help get him back on his feet. Tracey is in the process of cleaning up his property, purchasing a used trailer to move on his land and grieving.

Funeral services for Jefferson's great-grandfather, Ira "Frog" Jefferson, 87, are as follows:

Visitation: Friday, Jan. 24, 6 – 7 p.m., at Heavenly Gates Funeral Home, 1339 Jewel Street, Shreveport.

Funeral Service: Saturday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m., at Bracks Chapel CME Church, 588 Chinanook Road in Elm Grove.

Graveside Service: Monday, Jan. 27, at 10 am. at Northwest La. Veterans Cemetery in Keithville.
