An EF1 tornado touched down in Washington County on Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
The NWS tweeted that a storm damage team confirmed a tornado briefly touched down in Kossuth Township, near Topsfield.
The tornado touched down around 5:40 p.m. Monday, hitting speeds of 90 mph, according to preliminary NWS data. The maximum width was about 200 yards, and it had a path of about a quarter mile.
There were two concentrated areas of damage with sporadic damage in between along Iron Bridge Road, according to the NWS. About 120 softwood trees were uprooted or snapped.
This is the first confirmed tornado of 2019.
Maine sees a few tornadoes each year.
