Prep Wrestling: Host Blue Tornado Wins McCallie Invitational

Led by champions Alex Whitworth (126) and River Henry (285), the host Blue Tornado won the McCallie Wrestling Invitational Saturday with 209.5 points while runner-up Woodland finished with 193.5 points.

North Hall (166), West Laurens (155.5) and defending champion Union Grove (155) completed the top five in the 33-team field.

Woodland, who won this tourney in 2015, had the most individual champions with three in Caden McCrary (113), Kyle Gollhofer (120) and Cody Cochran (160).

OW – Union Grove’s Justin Ruffin was voted the Outstanding Wrestler for the third straight year as he won his fourth McCallie title.

Best Match – River Henry (McCallie) dec. 1-0 in the 285 pound final.

Top Seeds: Ten No.1 seeds won titles, followed by No.2 (1), No.3 (2) and No. 7 (1).

No.1 vs. No.2: seven championship finals had the top two seeds with the No.1 wrestler win six of the matches.
