Niger Tornadoes defender Hussaini Isah passed away in Minna, Niger State, on Monday evening after reportedly being struck by a motorcycle, the Nigeria Premier Football League club has confirmed.

The player was in action for the Ikon Allah Boys on Sunday evening against Kwara United, and was selected as the Man of the Match. He was hit by a motorcycle rider along Maitumbi road in Minna 24 hours later, the club said.

In a brief statement released by Niger Tornadoes on Monday night, the club announced: "With a sorrowful heart, we painfully announced the sudden exit of our dedicated and humble defender Hussaini Isah, who lost his life this Monday evening.

"The defender who just returned to the team after a match suspension due to yellow card accumulation was hit by a reckless motorcycle rider popularly called Okada along Maitumbi road, Minna, Niger State."

The 19-year-old's death throws Nigerian football into mourning for the second time in three months, following the death in similar circumstances of Kano Pillars' star Chinedu Udoji in February.
