Numerous tornadoes were reported from Georgia to Alabama. Severe storms damaged buildings and downed trees in a northern Alabama county. The National Weather Service in Huntsville, Alabama, issued a severe weather statement at 6:41 p.m. that a confirmed tornado was over Ardmore. Significant damage has been reported at Jacksonville State University in Alabama. WYFF News 4 Chief Meteorologist John Cessarich and Meteorologist Chris Justus monitored the storms into the overnight hours as heavy rain and lightening moved through the Upstate. They said the worst of the severe weather stayed from Atlanta southbound where damaging winds, even isolated tornadoes, were reported. Mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers are expected Tuesday with temperatures in the 60s. Cold air returns Tuesday night with snow in the mountains. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
